This 2008 Nissan Altima coupe had spent every winter parked outside with no cover, and the damp had worked into the trunk gutters, the door jambs and every rubber seal. We deep cleaned the interior and the exterior at the owner’s home in Camas, Washington. The job took about seven hours and covered a four step vacuum of every carpet, a two step wipe down of the whole cabin, a hand wash of every panel, and individual attention to the jambs, gutters and seals that a normal wash never reaches.
What we did
Extremely dirty, and it lived outside all year. Not a car anyone had neglected on purpose. It just sat through Pacific Northwest winters with no cover, and the weather did the rest. Moss and grime had settled into the trunk gutters, the door jambs and every rubber seal, and the interior had years of ordinary daily use layered on top.
We deep cleaned the interior and exterior together. Door jambs, trunk gutters and the tight spots most washes never reach got individual attention rather than a pass with a wash mitt.
Every interior element was wiped down using a two step method. First a soft brush with the right chemical, worked into the vents, the seams and the tiny cracks where dirt actually lives. Then a microfiber wipe to lift that loosened dirt out instead of pushing it deeper.
The exterior was hand washed so the dirt came off properly. We worked panel by panel, trying to perfect each one, until it looked clean and fresh again rather than just wet.
A car with no garage takes the weather all year. Rain and snow sit on it for months and the damp works into every seal and channel, so the dirt ends up in the places a normal wash never reaches. Trunk gutters, door jambs, lower seals, window channels. Once it is in there it does not rinse out, which is why this car needed a deep clean rather than a wash, and why the job runs into hours instead of minutes.
Four step vacuuming
Run on every carpet and floor in the car.
- Vacuum out all the trash, tiny rocks and sticks.
- Drill brush at medium intensity to lift what is bonded into the carpet.
- Vacuum again to pull out everything the brush released.
- Pet hair remover, then a tool to work the deeper layers and lift the fine particles left behind.
Result
- Trunk gutters, hinges and struts cleared of the green build up sitting in them.
- Door jambs and sills cleaned back on every door.
- Cup holders, console tray and vents cleaned out, including the seams around them.
- Carpets vacuumed in four passes, with the drill brush lifting what was bonded into the fibers.
- Every panel hand washed, and the wheels and arches deep cleaned.
Surface growth on rubber seals, in trunk gutters and around door jambs comes off with the right chemical, a brush and patience, and this car is the proof. What cleaning cannot undo is damage that already happened underneath it. Rubber that has perished, paint that has been etched or trim that has faded from years of sun will still be perished, etched or faded once the dirt is gone. We tell you which one you are looking at before we start, not after.
